Texas Police Trust announces enhancements to its disability plans
Effective June 1, 2011 the elimination periods for Plan B and Plan C disability will be reduced from the current 14 day elimination period to a 7 day elimination period. Plan A or the contract benefit will remain at the current 14 day elimination period. This change will only apply to accidents or illnesses that occurred or begin on or after June 1, 2011.
Take this opportunity to review your coverage and consider an upgrade. Please remember that plan A or the contract benefit is accident only and does not include an illness benefit.
If you are not sure what plan you are on or need additional information, please call 832-200-3410 or come by for a review.
“Members asked us for a lower elimination period, I am happy that we were able to offer this enhancement to our disability coverage” John Yencha, Chairman

Medical Supplement Update
The Texas Police Trust (TPT) has ordered an actuarial study to determine the feasibility of increasing medical supplement payouts. The TPT pays out approximately 2 million dollars in medical reimbursement each year. Of which, close to 1 million is paid in the prescription benefit. The next highest category is Doctor Visit co-pays at just over $400,000.
While the TPT has not received an increase in funding from the City or raised rates to its members in many years, it will make every effort to increase benefits. In the short term the TPT will increase the co-pays for “Active Plus” members to the following:
| |
Current |
Proposed |
| Doctor Visits |
$25 |
$30 |
| Specialist |
$25 |
$30 |
| Urgent Care |
$40 |
$60 |
The plan limits and “Contract” benefits will remain the same for now.
Plan deductible, the TPT has never paid plan deductibles. For the first time the City of Houston (COH) will impose a $100 (per person per year, $300 family max) deductible on prescriptions for those participants in the CIGNA KelseyCare plan*. In an effort to assist members with this, the TPT will reimburse the $10 generic or the maximum $45 dollar co-pay that we would have paid based on the COH Four-tier Prescription Drug plan. This prescription deductible rule will be applied to both “Contract” and “Plus” members. For all other plans, the TPT will pay after deductibles.
